アメリカではABCで「シャイアン」、「ブロンコ」と交互に放映された。
1860年代の西部を舞台に、通信教育で法律の勉強をしながら弁護士を目指す青年が、自身拳銃の名手でありながら、できるだけ拳銃を使わず話し合いでトラブルを解決しようとする西部劇。
シュガーフットとは「弱虫」とか「意気地なし」という意味。
