UPI通信社（United Press International）のスポーツ担当の記者だったオスカー・フレイリー（Oscar Fraley 1914-1994）が、エリオット・ネスの記憶と記録をもとにして書いた「The Untouchables」
が原作で、フランク・ニティー、ダッチ・シュルツ、レッグス・ダイヤモンド等、実在の人物が多数登場するが、各ストーリーは殆どドラマ用のフィクションアメリカでは40％という高視聴率を維持し、1960年にエミー賞を、ネス役のロバート・スタックは最優秀主演賞を受賞
